A Disney spring break

Florida is home to the ever increasingly popular ‘Spring Break’ for college students. In just the past 15 years, the percent of college students spring breaking in Florida has increased by a whole 36%.

Along with this increase of attendees is an increase in drug-related arrests. One week of spring break in Panama City accounts for $80,000 in fines and bails paid to the city. A fun, and perhaps cheaper, option could be a week-long trip to Walt Disney World.

The average spring breaker spends roughly $1,100 a week for their festivities. That could easily transfer to a 5-day pass to Walt Disney World with a 5-night stay at any of Disney’s All Star Resorts. With this estimate, you would be left with another $300 for food and souvenirs. If you are traveling in a group, remember that rooms tend to have two large beds for you and three friends to split the price on. This would allow an extra $120 in your selective spending.

A perk of staying at a Disney Resort is special access to earlier park operating times and even some late into the night.

Another perk is the elaborate transportation system. You can save on gas by taking the buses, monorail and ferries to and from your resort or from one park to another. These depart and arrive regularly, so the wait is relatively short.

Now that Disney has moved to the Magic Bands, all you could need for forms of payment is at the tip of your fingers, or rather, your wrist! The band serves as your room key, your ticket into the park, reservations, your chosen dining plan and, if you so desire, you can apply a direct connection to your credit card for all other purchases. This comes in handy with the hassle of multiple paper tickets gone and you have no worries of getting money or other paper items wet or lost while at the pool.

There are many other places to which you can venture with a group of fellow college students. With gas prices falling, we can get back to the days of college road trips.

Should you decide that a trip to Walt Disney World with your colleagues is more your style, or even perhaps going to another vacation spot like the Smokies, be sure to start planning now as hotels will soon start filling up.
