Tropical Smoothie introduces new tacos

Tropical Smoothie is now offering fish and chicken tacos, as well as a new smoothie for their “Tropical Tacos Promotion.”

The promotion began on Jan. 7 and will continue until Mar. 31. The restaurant will also be recognizing “Taco Tuesdays,” in which customers will be able to purchase two tacos, a side and a soft drink for $5.99.

The tacos are made on toasted flour tortilla with either grilled chicken or grilled tilapia, and include Caribbean salsa, romaine lettuce and chili lime sauce. They offer a sweet and spicy kick, and upon first bite the word “tropical” definitely comes to mind. Both the chicken and fish are quite well prepared, and the chili lime sauce adds a spark of spice, meshing well with the Caribbean salsa. The tacos are unique, delicious and affordable.

The “Passion Fruit" smoothie includes bananas, mangos, pineapple and of course, passion fruit (a tropical fruit found in Brazil).  The smoothie’s flavor is sweet, and it maintains a good balance of flavors. It makes a good addition to the already wide variety of flavors on the smoothie menu.

Restaurant Owner Doug Ruggles said that they decided to offer tacos because of their popularity in quick service restaurants, and that they could become permanent, if they are well received.

“It’s possible,” Ruggles said. “Ultimately it just depends on how popular they are.”

Ruggles also said that he believes that Tropical Smoothie is the only smoothie-specializing location to offer a complete menu.

"The name just lends to smoothies," Ruggles said. "I think we are the only smoothie concept that has a full menu."

The fish and chicken tacos and "Passion Fruit" smoothie are currently available at all Tropical Smoothie locations.
