Comedians from Comedy Central Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele performed live at the Nutter Center on Nov. 17. Both are best known for their ability to do improvisation and character impressions. The audience quickly became amused as Key and Peele opened their sketch by satirizing the President. Throughout the night they kept the audience involved by asking questions and pulling people up on the stage to compliment their act. They also incorporated a lot of material about WSU in their jokes, such as the Province and the "Clifford Sculpture" on campus. These comedians were brought to campus by S.W.A.T.
"We chose to bring Key and Peele to Wright Sate because we thought the show would be one that students would not want to miss," Emily Millar, Chair of S.W.A.T, said. "Key and Peele had just stated their second season of their show on Comedy Central and we thought the timing was perfect to bring them to WSU."
During the show, Key and Peele did a yelling exercise with the crowd, talked about WSU's mascot the raiders and club football. They did a skit about white guys, white girls and black girls being drunk after the club, and how all ethnicity and genders react differently.
During the show Key and Peele took turns going back stage, and once they returned to the stage the one that was backstage had to figure out what movie the one on stage was acting out. During this time, the audience helped pick what movies would be acted out. They also showed clips from their season on a projector. One included Key and Peele imitating NFL players on ESPN.
“My favorite part of the show was the opening sketch that was personalized for Wright State," Millar said. "They made the show one of a kind, unlike you would see anywhere else."
"Our goal for this event was to bring a big name comedian to Wright State students and to provide them with an unforgettable show,” Millar said. “I think the event was a huge success; it was a great feeling to hear the crowd laughing all night and knowing that they were enjoying the show. The hard work of everyone in the Student Weekened Activities Team definitely paid off; it was an unforgettable event."
Key and Peele's show airs Wednesday's at 10:30 p.m. Both Comedians have had their fair share of film credits, guest appearances and awards. Key and Peele were both regulars on Fox's MadTV and recurred on Comedy Central's "Reno 911!." Currently Key lives in LA with his wife and their dogs, and Peele lives in Hollywood and enjoys playing video games, making puppets and coming up with ideas.
